Congratulations! You survived the stress of the holidays, the kids have gone back to school and you finally have some time to get back to your professional life. At the beginning of every New Year, you, like many people, often feel rejuvenated with a fresh start for the year to come. With this fresh start comes the opportunity to set new goals and resolve to make changes where changes are due. As a work at home mom, you face a particularly busy and overwhelming schedule. Juggling kids, work and household duties, your New Year resolutions tend to look different than that of the typical professional.
Create an organizational plan – Your daily life is chaotic and you frequently find yourself feeling overwhelmed. With the length of your to-do list and the number of hats you wear, organization is a tool that you can use to fight back against overwhelm and help maintain your sanity. Use the start to 2013 to create a solid system for your work life, home life and for the family to follow so that you can get organized and stay organized.
Don’t sweat the small stuff – You have enough to worry about on a daily basis that when small blunders creep in, you cannot afford to put your energy toward these minor issues. Resolve to stop sweating the small stuff and you will give yourself, and your sanity, the break you need to focus on the tasks, people and issues that really matter.
Put your talents to work for you – Are you exceptional at planning events? Or do you have a knack for marketing a business? Put these talents to work for you. You can blog about your efforts, share your talent in a networking group or help others in your neighborhood. When you find new ways to use your talents, you can spend more time doing what you love most and find fulfillment in helping others along the way.
Give back to your community – 2013 continues to be a year focused on giving back to the community and acting with social responsibility. If you own your own business or operate out of your home, this is the perfect opportunity to teach your children about the importance of charity work while also bringing a new dimension to your business and professional life. You will feel fulfilled giving back to those in need, you will teach your children a lifelong lesson, and your business will gain positive publicity because of your efforts.
Allow yourself some time off – You can’t be your best if your batteries are not fully charged. Work at home moms rarely feel that they are fully recharged when they start their day but this year, make an effort to try to get more rest and have more ‘you’ time so you can be your best. Allow yourself a small vacation, lunch break when the kids are away and an opportunity to enjoy some peace and quiet now and then. It will do wonders for your overall mentality and happiness.
New Years Resolutions are not always easy to set and frequently people find themselves falling back into their same habits. Use these to give you the start to 2013 you deserve and make a point to keep them going all year round. What other New Years resolutions 2013 have you set for yourself, your family and your business?
